No place for business in the suburbs

WHOEVER stops the rot of business operations spreading into suburbia gets our vote. Large areas of Walmer and Newton Park have been overrun with businesses operating in what were once tranquil family/residential suburbs.

Fernglen and Sunridge Park are currently under attack in the form of “ambush businesses” setting up shop in the area. Under the auspices of moving in with their families, business people are soon running large-scale operations from extended outbuildings and garages, inviting an influx of traffic and resultant crime with their intended activities.

Courier vans and clientele race up and down our once quite streets, endangering residents and children at play.

There is currently a bid by a homeowner to have building and business zoning restrictions set aside in the heart of Fernglen. This despite the fact that designated business areas do exist in Port Elizabeth which are “fit for purpose”.

We would appeal to the incumbent and future powers that be in the metro to clamp down on these illegal operations, and protect our residential suburbs and family life, whichever the suburb.
