Letter: Parents, keep up northern areas protest

A GREAT statesman, our very own Nelson Mandela, said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” It is thus so tragic that the ANC, the party that he spent his life serving, no longer shares his passion for education.

It is my humble opinion that the ANC is willfully ignoring the demands of parents in northern area schools. It is however doing this at its own peril, as this is not just an isolated Eastern Cape problem but a national one.

I also believe that this type of parent protest will very soon flare up all over our beautiful country. The ANC wants an uneducated, ill-informed population so it can fool them for as long as it is in power.

It does not want the world (our country) to change for the better as that will mean that its time of controlling the masses will be over.

It however did not take into account the views of many parents who only want what is best for their children and ultimately for this country.

These parents know that a people can be destroyed if it has no education or knowledge. So in order for their children (and this country) to escape destruction, they want the best possible education, in the best possible circumstances for their children.

So to parents I want again loosely to quote Mandela: “Without (good) education, your children can never really meet the challenges they will face.

So it is important to give your children (good) education and explain that they should play a role for this (their) country”.

Keep up this protest because “only through hardship, struggle and militant action can this fight be won” (Mandela). Viva, parents for education, viva!
