Jordaan ignores Hindus

AS a Hindu resident in the metro I am deeply disappointed with our mayor, Danny Jordaan. It was very thoughtful of him to place an advert in The Herald just more than month ago extending greetings and good wishes to the Muslim community during Eid. Unfortunately he did not accord the Hindu community the same respect. Last month there were media reports (including one in The Herald) about a cultural day in Malabar ahead of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. According to the reports, Jordaan was to be the guest of honour.

On the cultural day he was conspicuous by his absence. Two weeks ago the local Hindu community joined millions the world over to celebrate Diwali. Yet again Jordan failed the Hindu community during this auspicious occasion by not greeting them via the media. I am certain he will remember to place an advert next month extending greetings and good wishes for Christmas. An apology to the Hindu community would not be out of order.
