IN her article “Move for new council chamber” (Herald, March 29), Rochelle de Kock tells a good news story.
Pierre Voges and the Mandela Bay Development Agency must be congratulated on their forward-looking plan which has now been approved by the economic development, tourism and agriculture portfolio committee.
This plan to purchase the old Port Elizabeth Post Office building should be celebrated by all in the metro, in these stringent economic times, where a beautiful, old building is “recycled” and put to good use, instead of spending millions on new structures.
The MBDA’s creative expertise means that this exciting project, when it obtains final approval by the municipality, is in safe hands.
The expanded plan to link other important buildings in the very centre of our central businesss district should, once completed, provide our tourism industry in the Bay with a venue more than worthy of a visit by the tour guides.
