I read an SMS from Curious regarding taxis racing in Summerstrand (“Races in Summerstrand every day”, February 9).
Try riding in one every morning.
There isn’t a single morning that I don’t fear something is going to happen. From Algoa Park to Korsten, a taxi driver overtakes in the lane of oncoming traffic.
Another driver runs through four red robots, not amber turning red but red and then the driver makes a comment that if caught he would have to pay R4 000, forgetting that he could be paying with people’s lives.
They race down the bus lanes as if it’s Kyalami with no regard for pedestrians, other vehicles or the passengers riding in their taxis. They think the rules of the road do not apply to them.
I can tell you it’s pointless saying anything, they look at you as if you are the one who’s insane. I appeal to the South African Police Service and traffic officers to crack down on these offenders.
