Hospitals getting better

LAST week, it was my privilege to conduct an oversight at three state hospitals in the metro. We started at the Livingstone Hospital and proceeded to the Provincial Hospitals in PE and Uitenhage. Our appointments were honoured to the minute! We were escorted and met by dedicated, friendly staff. They showed us all the facilities we wanted to inspect and gave us additional information when we asked for it.

The Livingstone Hospital was clean and hygienic and the wards were quiet. This was not the case 17 months ago. Then I found the Livingstone depressing, squalid, unkempt and noisy. So the DA thanks the new CEO, Thulani Madonsela, for his unfailing courtesy and reliable feedback. This success, coupled with Estelle Ellis' success stories in “Hospitals of Hope”, point the way to a positive future. Congratulations too to Livingstone cleaner, Buti April, for reminding us that individual dedication creates a cycle of success.
