Church does protest

There is sufficient evidence to support my assertion:

  • The Christian leaders in the metro have been engaging and continue to engage the three spheres of government on the concerns expressed and more. To cite one example, when former municipal manager Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela resigned due to the alleged political interference, we wrote to the three spheres of government seeking an audience on the matter;
  • Diocesan bishop of ACSA Bethlehem Nopece in each diocesan newsletter called Indaba speaks against the concerns raised in the letter;
  • The metropolitan, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, has been called names by those in power because of his stance on the concerns raised in the letter. Please google his sermon of the Christmas service last year;
  • Lastly, the traditional churches under the banner of SACC have been challenging the ruling party on corruption, incompetence and maladministration. The latest is the SACC public letter entitled ‘SACC appalled by Nhleko Nkandla report’ (May 29).
