Statue cleaning for ‘love of the city’

I HAVE been following the events around the recent “paint attack” on the Queen Victoria statue, an incident which I view with dismay.

It is also my understanding that a substantial amount has been quoted to remove the paint from the statue.

As a Port Elizabeth-loving citizen who has lived here all my life, I am prepared to assist with the removal of the paint at my own cost.

My company operates in the painting industry, hence we are familiar with products that could be used for such an exercise.

My only request would be for us to be allowed an opportunity to do a sample test with the relevant paint removal product on a very small area of the statue.

If successful, we will do the remainder of the task at our cost. Maybe you can put us in contact with the relevant authorities?

I wish to emphasise that this offer is purely for “the love of the city” and we do not request any recognition.
