TOWNSHIP STREETS A DISGRACE
REGARDING Bay’s filthy streets. I think Patricia Ndlovu deserves a BIG 0/5. The streets in the Bay townships are an eyesore, a shame and a disgrace. One becomes embarrassed even to show visitors around who come from outside NMBM. The city of Port Elizabeth in summary is rotten in filth. I have never ever seen dead dogs, municipal waste bags and all sorts of filth dumped on roundabouts or traffic circles as I saw in Kwazakhele a couple of months ago. Surely the Department of Public Health in partnership with communities can do something to turn around a situation that has become a very, very bad habit. What happened to “keep South Africa Clean”?
BB, ALGOA PARK
Cringed when I saw the cars that our local politicians drive. No wonder NMBM is in such a poor state. Their answers will be they pay for them – but with the exorbitant salaries from the city coffers no less.
One can always tell when one is “visiting an ANC- controlled council”. The filth, grime, litter and decay. In 50 years, I can count on one finger the amount of “disadvantaged” that use a litter bin … other than as a seat. Then they whinge about “living” conditions.
POLICE CHIEF DOES COMMUNITY PROUD
Gelvandale SAPS Brig Soekoe you are a real commander; instead of being surrounded by your family at the table, you and your members are trying to curb crime in the area. Not by police vans, cars or cyclists but by walking at night from street to street. The community is proud of you.
Report on TV, 5km of railway line stolen! But where are the locals, railway, municipal, business officials, and the police for goodness’ sake?
AMERICANS KEEP POT BOILING
By using the UN Security Council veto, the Americans have kept the Palestinian-Israeli pot boiling for 67 years, leading to ethnic cleansing of Palestinians on a massive scale. Similarly, the Russian veto has kept the Syrian pot boiling now for three years, causing the deaths of 200000 Syrians. That’s what imperialism does besides sending in Western armies looking for invisible WMDs.
REWARD FOR POSTAL STRIKERS?
Post Offices closed at 1pm on 24th and 31st. Only shops in whole complex closed. Reward for striking for three months! Huh?
HERALD BUMPER EDITION A TREAT
Christmas Edition was a real treat. Jam-packed with excellent reads and something for everyone. Thank you.
To the editor. Your so-called bumper paper for Christmas. Please it was 75% adverts; the only good page was Wiggett. He always comes out on top. Spice up your paper for next year.
Great special edition on 24th of WEPost and Herald in one and in tabloid form – do it more often!
Peter Woods Xmas Eve column: always intellectually thought-provoking, except to those that prefer unquestioning masses. Perhaps some more insight on the actual origins of Christianity and other religions would be very interesting.
What a waste of money Herald on 24th Dec. No real news, just boring rehashes of old stories. Suspect staff went home early so just filled pages with rubbish. Just bought my last Herald.
