Work for cleaner streets in city

TAKING an early morning drive after dropping a car off at a bodyworks workshop, we took a route back via North End, Richmond Hill then onto Cape Road via Russell Road. What a sight – black bags loaded (hopefully to be collected), spilling their contents all over, people ripping them open and scratching in them – a further depressing sight.

Is our municipality looking for “the cleanest city award” or should we be educating our people on dealing with garbage and litter responsibility?

Why not have a cleanliness campaign inter-suburb with a prize for the cleanest. Sounds silly but get a sponsor and it might well work.

Worth a try. Any improvement is worth it.

Train the unemployed to take a pride in their surroundings and learn a skill, such as gardening with plants or vegetables and herbs.
