Poor service from police

HERE is just another sterling example of SAPS' efficiency.

On Tuesday night, my husband and I were woken up by what can only be described as a midnight ritual or unholy prayer session. We live opposite the Donkin Reserve in Central on Belmont Terrace and several individuals have been using this park for the last few months as a platform to perform all kinds of rituals.

The piercing noise started after midnight and continued right through until after 3am. We called the 10111 line at 1am to report the disturbance, and a SAPS van arrived and drove right across the park to where the noise (chanting, ululating, groaning, screaming, clapping and dancing) emanated from.

This is the amazing aspect. The police did not get out of their van nor did they drive closer, although they could clearly hear the racket and were probably 5m away from the group.

After three minutes they drove off, leaving us to call 10111 again to enquire why SAPS members did not get out, investigate and do their jobs. Perhaps it was too chilly.

This however did not deter the merry-makers or voodoo worshippers in the park, who continued chanting unabated.

I shudder to think what their response would have been had it been something far more serious than disturbing the peace.
