Many positives in EP Kings-Wales game overlooked

I CONCUR, M Abrey ("Not game I watched", June 12). There were many positives in the game that the reporter overlooked.

Carlos Spencer's influence in the backline is palpable and once the correct combinations have been identified, more positive results will flow. Once again, we had to suck the hind tit when it came to the late announcement of our acceptance into the Currie Cup Premier Division and were left with the task of buying players the other provinces overlooked.

Did we really expect a team in the foetal stages of its quest for glory to subdue some of the best that Wales could offer?

I agree with Spencer when he stresses the need for the EP Kings to retain possession of the ball for longer phases. To add my penny's worth of armchair coaching, we will also have to sharpen up on our attack in the opponent's 5m zone from our lineout ball.

Similarly, our strategy in defence needs attention when the opponents do the same in our 5m zone. Once the opponents identify this as our Achilles heel (as Wales did), it's game-over for us.

We have a rough journey this year, but I am sure the EP faithful will be rewarded next year.
