Avoid littering

THE latest method of begging in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and no doubt other cities is to approach stopped cars with a black plastic garbage bag asking for the litter in your car to be removed for a donation. I regret that as useful a service as this may appear to be, the garbage bag is ultimately emptied at the side of the road where it poses a new pollution problem.
As much as I do not advocate not giving the person something, which is naturally your own choice, I do recommend that you desist from handing over your litter for misdirected dispersal elsewhere.
