GANGSTER KILLINGS IN NORTHERN AREAS
“GOD help us”: God helps those who help themselves. As long as families and communities hide gangsters in their midst the police will only be putting out fires. Radical surgery is needed to remove this cancer. No peace movement will solve the scourge of gangsterism. Communities should stop living in fear and fight “fire with fire”, like Pagad did with the notorious Staggies in Woodstock, Cape Town.
“GOD help us”: yes, South Africa, we take Almighty God out of our schools, we legalise abortion, we legalise same sex marriages, mothers, fathers, grandparents and friends are raping our children, and the gangsters appear to have taken over some neighbourhoods. All is not lost. The Holy Bible says: “If my people repent of their sins I will forgive them their sins and heal their land.”
GANGLAND terror: I suggest that the so-called leaders stop the praying and do something. It is said that God helps those who help themselves.
WO Alwin Labans, get your facts straight. Police members are allegedly involved in all crime syndicates: drugs, prostitution, vehicles , gangsterism and everything there is a law against. Rather keep a close eye on your colleagues, for you and them could be involved and support a syndicate. Syndicates have control. You not only serve and protect the general public but allegedly these too – your bread is buttered on both sides.
PROUD OF YOUNG ANIMAL HERO
JOSHUA Lourens’s love for animals is an inspiration for every school-going child in PE. Each and every child and adult alike can help with time, donations, collections visits to a shelter to walk the dogs, or cuddle a cat or kitten. I challenge each school to start a campaign collecting dog and cat food and blankets, organise a group outing to an animal shelter and offer their services in some way. If one school starts it, I am sure others will follow. Joshua, you are an animal hero and PE can be really very proud of you. I certainly am.
MUNICIPALITY TURNS BLIND EYE TO LEAKS
IRONICALLY amusing to read about the R1-billion water recycling project at Coega, seeing as our mismanaged circus of a municipality turns a nonchalant blind eye to hundreds of water leaks all around the metro. Sixth Avenue, Walmer traffic circle and Beach Road near the Humerail railway bridge are typical examples!
CAN ZUMA NOW REST FOR FIVE YEARS?
THE front page of a Sunday paper says: “20 hour work days for the last five months of campaigning depletes President Zuma”. Does that now qualify him for a five-year rest and does that explain the last five years of doing nothing? Was he resting up for those oh so crucial five months of re-election campaigning?
DON’T DERIVE MORALITY FROM RELIGION
WE do not derive our morality from religion. The chief justice should read R Dawkins’s book, The God Delusion.
LUKE WATSON LEFT OUT OF KINGS SIDE
CARLOS Spencer, thanks for leaving Luke Watson out. He would again get hurt and again be on the gravy train for another season, thanks to Cheeky Watson, his protector.
WE live in an unsustainable society. We consume western goods, but we do not produce these goods using western concepts of free markets, protection of private property rights, economic growth, entrepreneurship and innovation.
WELL DONE ON GREAT FETES
WELL done to both Priory for its magical fete and to Cheshire Homes for its amazing and welcoming fete just past. It’s great seeing these two institutions having the gumption to generate money when it is needed. Disadvantaged schools should think of this option. It’s also such old fashioned fun!
WORK ON MARINE DRIVE A DISGRACE
MARINE Drive manholes, road surface and edging are a disgrace. What is the contractor going to do about it? Will no doubt be paid irrespective.
LET KOCKOTT PLAY FOR FRANCE
I SELDOM find reason to disagree with Nick Mallett in anything to do with rugby, but this time I think he is wrong about Rory Kockott. Let him play for France. SA has a few better than him.
REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS
REV Xundu is out of order. Rev Tengo expressed his personal view, not the view of Idamasa and that is the view of the majority of black South Africans. People voted for the movement not Jacob Zuma. He does not deserve to be a member of the former liberation movement. The man is a disgrace to the black nation.
D FROST in Thursday’s The Herald raised a point which may negatively affect a few BEC (pre-paid) metered customers. What he has not considered is the deposit paid by consumers using credit meters. This deposit is a multiple of your monthly account and is refunded to your estate after, say, 50 years, at which time inflation and zero interest has reduced the deposit to a pittance.
A SIMPSON, LORRAINE, PORT ELIZABETH
TEMBALETU from Wells Estate: “We had it too easy” – really now. With your mentality SA will never get past apartheid. We will all be in the same pot of stew soon. Our road forward is one of struggle for all, you are just too blinded by hatred to see it.
HOW can Tembaletu be allowed to generalise by saying “you people” and “you all” because of one person. You and not “your people” are narrow-minded!
THE ugliest high profile building in PE? Business School building. Second ugliest? Town Lodge hotel next to City Lodge on the beachfront.
“LEGISLATE against racism”: yes hopefully it will open your eyes, DR Galloway, to see how racist our people are against white people. If all of us as South Africans can try as hard as the white people of this country to change our attitude, this country will be the greatest in the world.
