Stand up for gender equality!

PARDON me, but I do believe The Herald's gender-petticoat is showing.

In your report on men taking up the noble profession of nursing ("More men helping to change the face of nursing", May 23) you refer gently to "the traditionally women's world", which is in sharp contrast to the more accusative "male-dominated" used when men are in the majority.

You record, without charges of sexism, that doctors refer to female nurses as "nurse", but call males by their names. Why can't male nurses be referred to by that title of yesteryear, "staff nurse"? It would certainly be gender appropriate, if you will pardon the double entendre.

Men must now demand immediate gender parity in the nursing profession and need not concern themselves about how this will affect the service to patients. Gender equality is all that counts

Men of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your ball and chain.
