VOTING OVER, RESULTS IN

THE DA should give the Western Cape to the ANC in exchange for running the national ministries of education and health. South Africa is in a desperate situation after 20 years of ANC mismanagement.

READER

THE fat lady has sung. Our beloved ANC can now proceed with the task of leading South Africa. All patriotic South Africans should now “work together to move South Africa forward”. ANC lives, ANC leads.

DR GALLOWAY

NOW I am totally confused. The ANC wins New Brighton, Coega, Motherwell, Amanzi (Uitenhage), Missionvale and Kleinskool, all service delivery protesting areas. Stupid or what?

EDWIN

CONGRATULATIONS DA, keep it up! Don’t wait for election time to come out, as if you only want to garner votes. Going out to the townships to show the people of the metro you really care must be on your diary. You will see even larger support. People are tired of being duped. It all depends on you!

THEMBUKAZI SHWEMPE

TODAY I am very proud to say that I voted for the DA and it makes me very happy to see how it has grown since 2009. I feel like I have voted for a party that has proven itself over the past few years and will carry on doing so. Well done Helen Zille and everyone else at the DA!

LINDA IN PORT ELIZABETH

YOU can’t fool all the people all the time but in South Africa you can fool 62% for 20 years.

YOUR OPINIONS VALUED, PIET NAUDE

PROF Naude, many thanks for your service to PE and the insightful columns on ethics. While I disagreed with you on occasion, your opinions were greatly valued. Best wishes.

M NEGRES

THIS is sad! It seems that other provinces are on a mission to poach the best minds from our poor province. Piet Naude is one of the people with integrity in the metro who never minced his words. I am going to miss your column. Good luck at USB!

SAD ABOUT TODDLER DROWNING

MY sincere condolences to the family of Jaelyn Barendse. Please everyone, if you have a pool, have a fence around it and a pool net. Even then, you have to be so careful. I will never forget December 16 in the late ’80s, when I heard that our neighbours’ son of two, Ross, had drowned in their new pool. They had a net, but had removed it when Ross asked to swim. He went inside to change. His mom was tending to plants around the pool. His dad was mowing the lawn. They did not notice Ross come outside. So sad.

UNEMPLOYMENT ARTICLE

MKHUSELI Jack’s article was excellent! If only our leaders were aware of the tragedy of too many babies. Ask social workers.

J DU TOIT

KHUSTA Jack is 100% wrong about government intervention in the fight against unemployment. Under the ANC government things are much better, and the EPW programme and the use of cooperative are examples of government success. Khusta must stop suffering from Thabo Mbeki syndrome. We voted for the ANC government again because of its progress to rid us of unemployment.

LARGE NUMBERS OF LIONS AT PARK

VISITED Seaview Predator Park about two years ago. Couldn’t help but notice the enormous breeding programme taking place there. There are camps just beyond the overnight cabins with more lions than you could ever imagine. Wonder what eventually happens to them?

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

IF Oscar Pistorius feels “vulnerable on his stumps” and it takes him “less than a minute” to attach his legs, surely he would switch on the light and quickly attach his legs before he grabbed a loaded gun and went to investigate a noise? Wouldn’t you proceed cautiously if you were “terrified” and listen carefully to see if you could hear the noise again? Don’t you think he would be more likely to grab his gun impulsively and race off down the passage on his stumps if he was angry, in a fit of temper? Why would Reeva Steenkamp get up and make her way to the toilet in the pitch dark, in silence? Wouldn’t she say, “I’m just going to the loo Baba, mind if I switch on the light?” Don’t you instinctively switch on the bedside light and talk to your partner when you both wake up at 2am? Don’t you cuddle? Why would Pistorius introduce Reeva as his “fiancee” when he had “never even told her that he loved her”?

WHAT SHOULD WE DO ABOUT NUCLEAR SHIP?

CAN The Herald please report on the nuclear powered ship that is to visit the bay and dock? The Herald last week under legal notices had an application for a nuclear vessel licence in terms of section 21, etc. What exactly does this mean to us citizens of NMMM and what would happen if there was a problem and the ship blew up? Please Herald, educate us on this! Do you think we must object?

WILDROSE

THE Herald carried a report on the possible visits of nuclear ships on April 22. Follow this link to read it: http://herald2.timesmedia.co.zalicence- sought-to-ship- nuclear-matter-into-pe – The editor

WINNING FORMULA IN BATTING ORDER

WHY do the best T20 players like David Miller, JP Duminy or Kieron Pollard only come in when there are only 15 balls left? Yet Kings XI Punjab bring their best players in at Nos3 and 4, and tell their Nos1 and 2 to get on with it.

WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE IN SYRIA?

IF 200 girls are kidnapped in Nigeria, the whole world is up in arms, but when 150 men, women and children are barrel bombed to pieces every day in Syria, then not a murmur.
