ALL our Friendly City football lovers need to rally behind Chippa United, our newcomers to our friendly city and in our world class Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium during the next season.
I would like to salute both Chippa Mpengesi and our Nelson Mandela Metro, together will all other stakeholders who have made this lucrative deal, as we have been looking forward to seeing at least one PSL team relocating to our beautiful Nelson Mandela Metro so that we can entertain Port Elizabeth fans in our beautiful and world class stadium.
I am a Chiefs supporter, but make no mistake that Chippa United will also get my 100% support when they play other PSL clubs. I will make sure I do go to watch them live, especially when they play in Port Elizabeth.
We need to roll our red carpet out for them and come out in numbers when they do play home games, as it was not an easy decision for them to take to relocate to our friendly city.
I am challenging all our big companies like VW, GM, Ford Motor Company and also the tyre companies to invest in the team through sponsorship deals so that we can see the team growing from strength to strength.
The Nelson Mandela companies can also motivate their workers, and buy them soccer tickets and negotiate packages so that we can encourage families and friends to support the team and avoid the stadium being empty. This is a golden opportunity for our local fans and not to be missed as this is the only region that does not have any PSL team and what a good start for the new season
Chippa United also boasts with a new kid in the block, Steve Kompela, as a coach who is oozing with a lot of experience.
I appeal to the management to give him reasonable time to build the team so that it can match the level and fitness of the PSL.
Once more well done to Chippa and well done to Kompela.
Rest assured that you have our full support and please keep us informed regarding fans’ and supporters’ club details. The people of Nelson Mandela Bay are fully behind the team .
