REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

JA, Roland Williams, you should be proud voting for the ANC because its lekker on the gravy train. Look where you live, what do you know about hardship? Lekker job and all.

READER

AMONG the “phenomenally fantastical” things that Roland Williams claims the ANC has delivered are 208 million houses. The population of RSA is about 52 million. This means four houses for every man, woman and child. I think not, or have I missed something here?

DR Galloway, you must have 20 chips on your shoulder. In the last 20 years SA has gone from a first world country to a third world country, SA has gone backwards under ANC rule so how on earth is it suddenly going to take SA forward?

NAP

DR Galloway, we vote for a better future, not the past.

SHIRLEY van den Berg wants a political party that will bring “Christian moral, standards and values to this country”. Shirley, we’ve already had that! Fifty years of racial oppression by Christians who even used Scripture to justify their evil apartheid policy! There was still crime, corruption, greed, gambling, poverty, forced removals and detention without trial. Sadly women in dire straits had to resort to back street abortions! There was no evidence of “divine insight” within the ruling Nationalist Party or the church it was affiliated to. Dr Beyers Naude walked out of the church in protest. The state must be secular.

R MEMMA, a few pointers about the DA in the Western Cape. Build houses? The hunt for available land and financing is a major problem considering the migration of thousands (away from ANC areas) into the province each year. Toilets? Most informal settlements are on wetlands and piped sewerage is not possible and those who lead the protests have sworn to make the province ungovernable. Gang violence? Ask the national SAPS (who are the law “enforcers”) why they don’t arrest the drug lords (PE is going the same way) and known gangsters? ANC politics at play. The “coloureds” lived under corrupt ANC management for years and do see the difference with a stable, anti-corruption, competent DA administration. PE (my home town) will be run by the DA come 2016, then you will see chalk and cheese between ANC and DA governance. Money goes on service delivery, not into back pockets/Nkandla.

SO comrade JW, you tell The Heralds readers that Garry Stone did not fight communism but fought against his own countrymen. What profound rubbish. Umkhonto ran around planting bombs in hotels and restaurants murdering innocent civilians, and was largely absent from the war. Do you suggest that the Cubans, East Germans, MPLA, Swapo and Frelimo are “our countrymen”? You clearly know very little about the Border war.

TMM

IT’S time coloureds stand up – I agree with that, but they must first learn to unite with each other and stand together, then we can take SA by storm.

THANK YOU FOR HELP

I WOULD like to thank the woman who came to my aid and helped me after the accident I had at Eighth Avenue, Walmer. Many thanks.

DOREEN GWYNN

KINDNESS still abounds. My niece and I would like to thank the man who very kindly paid for our lunch at Dulce Walmer Park on Saturday. Much appreciated.

CAN’T DELIVER SERVICES TO RURAL AREAS

IS it strange? “They” can bring electricity to a voting station in the rural areas but in 20 years they couldn’t deliver electricity and on-tap water to these very same areas.

UPDATE ON STADIUM FLOODLIGHTS

THANKS, Dean Biddulph, for the update on the old Boet Erasmus Stadium. Pleased to see one sporting code is to receive some floodlights. What about others who are also in desperate need in all areas of PE, as there are plenty to go around? Be fair.

BAY DOESN’T SUPPORT LOCAL CLUBS

CHIPPA Mpengesi, keep your club in the Western Cape. PE is not a great city in soccer despite producing the best players. Few soccer clubs ever survived because the local community supports Gauteng big clubs.
