Victim can sue minister

ALL praise to the police for the successful conviction of one of their colleagues for raping a 12-year-old child, who had sought police assistance in opening a case of sexual harassment. ("Family relieved as rapist cop get life in prison", April 28). However, their responsibility to the victim does not end with the rapist being given a life sentence.

The lowlife used his position as a police officer to commit a vile and despicable crime, and the minister of police is legally liable for the actions. The minister cannot be unaware of this, as his department has been successfully sued in similar cases.

Although money will not erase the pain of what this unfortunate child experienced, I do hope the family will be assisted in seeking compensation, so they will be able to receive some form of redress.
