POLICE MUST TAKE THREATS SERIOUSLY

EDITORIAL comment “Gender violence must be curbed”: my friend was murdered allegedly by her boyfriend in October last year, leaving her three sons motherless. A day before the horrible incident, she went to the Grahamstown police for a protection order, telling them that the man was threatening to kill her. All the police said was “but he hasn’t done anything yet”. Unfortunately my friend couldn’t go back to the police because she was no more. She couldn’t even say “I told you so”! Our police do not take relationship threats seriously. They treat them as private matters between two people. Until they do we are going to bury our sisters, daughters and mothers. Once a woman feels that her life is threatened, our men in blue make a joke about it. Sad, isn’t it!

HOW does the ANC expect pupils to pass with all these holidays? Is this a tactic to impress voters? It is not acceptable!

WHY NO IPL REPORTS IN THE HERALD?

ARE The Herald sports reporters aware that the IPL is happening, with a number of SA players? There are pages of reports on British and European soccer – are there any readers who are interested?

ECKART

THE Herald is unable to cover the IPL cricket tournament because of a dispute between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and international news agencies. All international news agencies have decided to cancel their coverage of the series until there is a resolution of the dispute. – The Herald deputy sports editor George Byron

ELECTION SPEECHES

JACOB Zuma says SA has made great strides since the advent of democracy. Especially Nkandla!

READER

WHO do Jacob Zuma, Thabo Mbeki and the hordes of ANC political elite fear? They fear their own people in this failing farce of democracy. There is no external threat to them, the threat lies within and so the people shall govern. The last thing the ANC wants is to rule under true democracy – far too demanding and accountable. It simply tossed a bone with a different flavour to the masses with the message that there was more to come.

HKGK

REMEMBER it is not the ANC’s money, but the taxpayers’. The DA will do much better with the money because there will be no wasteful expenditure, stealing and corruption. Vote DA.

REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

ROSS, go to Newton Park post office as soon as possible! Last Friday they had stacks of telephone directories. I got one for the first time in three years, after being told at Rink Street that morning, “We don’t get them anymore”. Good luck!

DR Galloway, as far as I know, South Africa is democratic nation, not a socialist state, so I shall do what I want, when I want, how I want! As long as I don’t break good moral values. It is a freedom every man is born with.

DEMOCRAT

DR Galloway, why don’t you just focus on campaigning for your beloved ANCancer and leave others alone. If I want to braai in stead of attending a political hot air gathering, leave me alone!
