OSCAR PISTORIUS TRIAL

OSCAR Pistorius was ill prepared to face Gerrie Nel. He buckles under the pressure of the fangs of the pit bull.

XALABILE

TO all enthralled by Oscar Pistorius’s trial, seems all hinges on the placement of the fans, etc! Gerrie Nel is relentless.

DEBBIERAT

AND the Oscar goes to…Gerrie Nel for his poor performance in trying to emulate his counterpart, the defence advocate, as the scary, nasty unconvincing baddy! Been watching too many B-grade courtroom dramas, perhaps?

READER

OBSERVER appears to be a very hard person. Yes, Oscar Pistorius has to take his punishment, to hope that he rots in jail? Both families are in my prayers, you as well, Observer.

PEACEFUL, PORT ELIZABETH

WHAT a tasteless remark made by AJL regarding June Steenkamp. Pray that you never find yourself in a similar situation.

JAX

“SNOT ‘n trane”: that was a good one! That’s all he does for sympathy. Shame on you!

CADRE

LIBRA, the Oscar Pistorius trial is huge, as the judge said. This trial is not entertainment. Mary Surman is right!

SPORTS TEAM QUOTAS CONTROVERSY

ALL right thinking South Africans must call for an international ban on SA sport due to government interference along racial lines. We must boycott all matches where this policy is applied.

GARTH

TEMBALETU, you can have your quotas for cricket and rugby so they can join Banana Banana’s 66th rankings in the world.

REALIST

TEMBALETU, but you expect us to support the national soccer team? Let me correct you, our national soccer team are the ones who are always losing! The Springboks have won the World Cup twice and the Proteas has played in semifinals, more then we could say of soccer! Get real man! MRD

TEMBALETU, we don’t watch soccer as it is mainly a black sport. In any case Bafana Bafana is a waste of time and money to watch. Quotas are the way to go and should be applicable in all sport codes and we will all buy all the jerseys.

BIKES SHOULD HAVE REGISTRATION NUMBERS

CYCLISTS should have registration numbers as vehicles and motorcycles do so that when they break the rules of the road, there can be legal recourse.

WHAT POSSESSES MEN TO RAPE CHILDREN?

CHILD rapists: what possesses a grown man to molest, grope and damage young children? Sick savages! We live in depraved times!

GALA DINNER

MARIA Hermans, the cancellation of the annual metro address did not “contribute to negative perceptions of our service delivery programme and achievements”. The city bosses’ actual lack of delivery and achievements cemented this notion more than adequately.

TOMMY

IT is a disgrace that mayor Ben Fihla has spent R300000 on a gala dinner for 600 guests when that is our rates money being wasted on the rich people and it could be spent on more pressing matters which we always have to hear there is no money for. The ANC really knows how to waste our money.

UNHAPPY PENSIONER

GALA dinner boycott: a bit rich of the DA to accuse the ANC of electioneering, when its own boycott and press releases to that effect are exactly that as well!

HUDS

THE NMBM has a party costing more than R300000 after I have been battled for two months to get them to put a bulb in a lamppost, the excuse being they only have one truck. But they can have a party instead of buying a truck. As usual all our hard earned rates money going on parties/food and service delivery last on their agenda as usual. This is the last straw. Enjoy the last party that the ratepayers are paying for, again, because after May 7 there will be no further parties for you all. Well done to the DA for boycotting the “party”. After May 7 the DA will be having its own legit party.

I THINK the reason we cannot board cruise liners from PE is there’s no customs and excise at the harbour. Here’s a golden job opportunity for tourism and enterprising people, and would save travellers money.

SHEELAGH DAY, BEVERLEY GROVE, PORT ELIZABETH

SC, regarding your comment about EP Kings fans booing, only a few people do it and I’ve noticed that it is men who have drank too much at the stadium who are the guilty parties, and at other provinces and different sports the people also boo.

WHAT a great letter from Siviwe Svige on our leaders needing to command respect. That said, why did you not say you were going to vote DA? Have guts now.

WELL DONE TO IRONMAN ATHLETES

WELL done, all the Ironman athletes. That challenge is totally amazing, so brilliant an effort all round. Wonderful to see determination and resilience win! Our PE public is so invigorating and inspiring, no wonder we are called “the friendly city”!

SUPPORTER

WHILE being part of the crowd of Ironman spectators, it is very frustrating (unless you are at the start/finish, where there is a commentator with a mic), as you have no way of knowing how the race is panning out – the positions of the front runners and other favourites. Why can’t we have TV coverage for such a prestigious international event?
