GANGSTER SCOURGE

WHY can the government not spend R246-million on security for Helenvale and other gangster hangouts?

KAY

IF a gangster kills, he must hang or he will continue his fiendish actions behind bars. They have no fear of authority nor do they respect life.

ART

FEEL sorry for my people living in the gang violence and poverty. I know your fear and helplessness. Keep praying, God lives.

SHARILYN MOOS

THE way some policemen dress, like skollies, I would also run if three guys jumped out of a car with guns and started swearing at me.

NO HELP FOR PROJECT

IN an effort to get kids off the streets, I initiated an art class at a local primary school. I got a good response from the kids. Because the lights were vandalised, I appealed for help in this newspaper. I got one response (from Shoprite), but all they did was ask if they fixed it, what guarantee did I have it would not happen again. They did nothing. Stop moaning about crime and join those trying to do something about it.

REMOVAL OF RUMBLE STRIPS NOT ANSWER

NOW exiting Pier and Mitchell streets is again taking one’s life into one’s hands. The solution to removing the rumble strips is putting up pedestrian humps at the intersection. This is laughable and an insult to one’s intellect. I believe the DA had influence. Looking for popular vote but lost mine.

PARTY MEMBERSHIP NEEDED FOR JOB

RECENTLY I asked a friend to be on the lookout for a job for my unemployed wife. He in turn spoke to his friend, a bigwig in the ruling party, and the only question that was asked was if we were card-carrying members of the ruling party. Don’t qualifications and experience count for anything? At least I know where this country is going to.

ALL MUST SHARE IN SA’S WEALTH

THE article on the church leaders is most welcome! The population of SA is suffering! Winter nearly here and rain coming, who suffers? The kids, old people! Need I say more! We must all share in the wealth of our wonderful country!

UNIT TRUST PRICES

IS there a reason for unit trust prices not being published in The Herald any more?

INVESTOR

WE are publishing unit trusts on Tuesdays and Fridays as the changes are not significant enough on a daily basis to run them every day. – The editor

WHAT HAPPENED TO PREVIOUS FORUM?

“R100m investment target”: so we to launch an ambassador’s programme. Reminds me, whatever came of that forum of business leaders, all black, that was supposed to achieve the same? Undeniably a circus, regrettably.

REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

LETTER in yesterday’s paper: you surely cannot believe that any one man, president or not, can spend such an astronomical amount of other people’s money renovating a home. That’s just crazy and remember any educated person – surely he has to be if he is a president – will know that those “upgrades” were going way above what was necessary. He should have queried it and then stopped it. Absolutely shocking that there are people out there thinking that this whole fiasco is acceptable. Shocking misuse of so much money and not his money.

WELL said, Mkhuseli Mtsila (“Only ourselves to blame for scandal”). Give that man a Bell’s!

CITIZEN

KEVIN Foster, please stop the empty promises! You stated that “all our green areas are protected” and blah, blah blah! While on your watch we have witnessed the demise of our habitat. Just look at the state of the beach at Maitlands and the Swartkops River.

ROLAND Williams, I suggest you read Piet Naude’s column very carefully. It pertains to moral behaviour.

MALCOLM

ROLAND Williams, we all know you have been feeding at the public trough for the last 12 years. Instead of just keeping your puerile responses to your personal wealth and privileges (baby’s nursery and freebies to luxury venues) to yourself, you are just exacerbating the fact that you are able to use fancy dance moves around the English language out of context to justify your post from which you were suspended. To misquote Shakespeare, why does Roland keep on protesting so much?

HANNES VAN NIEKERK, PORT ELIZABETH

EBRAHIEM Astrie, could you please give me one example of atrocities inflicted by Israel on the Arabs in Israel, on what date and who were the people concerned? I was in Jerusalem on November 30 last year when a Muslim threw a rock at a car, it went through the window and badly injured a defenceless little five-year-old girl. The sad thing is that the perpetrator will be honoured by the jihadists.

SAME ANC

IT’S ironic the ANC that makes posters in the Western Cape for the people to show their grievances about service delivery is the same ANC that fails in its endeavours to service the provinces under its governance.

KEPT IN CELLS UNTIL MONDAY AFTER RAID

IMMIGRATION department raided clubs in Central late on a Saturday, took all those who didn’t have passports on them. They didn’t have scanners. Only approved by them on Monday after 4pm, after spending the weekend in cells. Is this worth it? What rights do we have? So disappointed.

MADONSELA SHOULD SUE

IF I was Thuli Madonsela, I would sue the pants off the man who attacked her person. He would not know what hit him.

WHO AWARDED THE BACK PAY?

COULD Rochelle de Kock publish the name of the arbitrator who awarded the NMMM directors the huge back pay/bonuses?
