Murder rate high

IT is often claimed that the Aids-denialist obduracy of ex-president Thabo Mbeki and his lieutenant, Dr Beetroot, resulted in the deaths of some 375000 people.

Dare one, by the same token, suggest that Nelson Mandela’s dogged insistence on the abolition of the death penalty may have contributed to South Africa’s hugely increased murder rate?
