Councillor must face residents' wrath

WITH the upcoming national elections and the following 2016 municipal elections, numerous candidates will be putting forward their names as party candidates for election. I wonder how many of them understand that they are, in the main, in the direct firing line of the disgruntled voters/ratepayers, who are angry at the lack of services, etc?

They may well feel the brunt of the anger of the voter/ratepayer, who may take the law into their own hands by committing violent acts against them. Voters/ ratepayers should understand that the lack of services, etc is not the fault of the individual councillor, but is the direct action of the ruling majority in council.

The individual councillor is merely in council to vote in line with the caucus position and in truth has little or no say in the policies of the ruling party.
