SERVICE DELIVERY MADE A POLITICAL ISSUE

SERVICE delivery v political dissatisfaction: most politicians, when they do not want to face the reality of the lack of service delivery, tend to run away from real complaints of not sticking to the promises of clean water, sanitation and roads. They tend to shift the non-delivery to a political issue, but the fact remains if Red Location in Port Elizabeth has no proper sanitation and the residents showed anger, I do not think that is political. I think it is a real issue that needs attention instead of running away from reality. The finance minister has spoken, but what we must ask is: are we really for taxpayers or for ourselves in government?

MONEY WASTED ON MADIBA COMMEMORATION

THE R6-million expenditure on the Mandela celebrations by our NMM Metro was a complete waste of ratepayers’/taxpayers’ money. Accommodation for Bay traffic officers in Qunu at R197944: why did they have to be present? One big outing for the ANC.

NMBM gets R760-million from the budget. Let’s see how much of that gets to be spent on the city, and not to feed the fat faces of officials and their ANC cadres! Case in point: R6-million budget cuts to fund “mourning” events in the Bay.

REMEDIES NOT SCIENTIFICALLY TESTED

“XEGO’s TB muti banned”: HIV/Aids research has shown we know very little about the immune system yet products to “boost the immune system” are touted by every quack and charlatan without the responsibility of scientific proof under the guise of nutrition or complementary medicine.

SCIENTIST

SICELO (Hamilton) Gqobana, I am glad about the statement in The Herald. I hope you will pay attention to how our senior citizens are treated at provincial hospitals and clinics. Mike, keep on trying. Viva.

BUDGET BLUES

YOUR headline, “Mister Delivery”, referring to Pravin Gordhan’s budget is extremely misleading. He in fact is merely giving taxpayers’ money to government for government to deliver or, as we know, not to deliver.

PAY ALL POSTMEN THE SAME

THE Department of Labour cannot allow SA Post Office management getting away with a far less rate of pay to casual postmen than permanent postmen when doing the same job! Soon casual postmen will sue the post office for fraud in remuneration. The president’s, ministers’, managers’, supervisors’ and all permanent workers’ salaries must decrease to feel how exploited casual workers feel!

MOST POLITICIANS ARE LIARS

ELECTION promises: are they possible? Some are and some not. Most politicians are liars. Helen Zille, Julius Malema, Blade Nzimande, Mosioua Lekota and even the old man promised us a better life. There is no better life. I know only one politician who was not a liar, Chris Hani.

POOR SHOW BY JACOB ZUMA

JACOB Zuma cancels his attendance at Nelson Mandela’s service at Westminster Abbey in London not once but twice. A lot can be said about this but all I will say is sies.

RAPE OF CHILD DESERVES DEATH PENALTY

THE barbaric act on our innocent child deserves a death penalty! If guilty, Xolile Tose must rot in jail!

CITIZEN

THE wild animal is unrepentant, to plead not guilty after allegedly brutally raping a six-year-old child.

BEST MOVIE BASED ON THE STRUGGLE

I WATCHED the Winnie Mandela movie. It was the best ever movie based on the struggle. I cried throughout the movie. It’s worth an Emmy award.

OLDER WOMEN WANT YOUNGER MEN

JT, enjoyed your letter. Now look at our side. I knew a woman, no fashion model, struggling to make ends meet, who refused a date with a wealthy friend of mine. The reason? He was balding and she didn’t want to be seen with an older man! Many women of say 50 still expect to get a guy of 30 or 40 who looks like Brad Pitt! I know, my sister is one of them, but that is unfortunately why we don’t even try. Have a wonderful new year and I pray you find the man of your dreams. Hope my sister doesn’t read this!

QUEUEING A MONEY-MAKING BUSINESS

AT the Korsten traffic department it is a money-making business, for individuals, by selling places in the queue. The municipality must remove those people immediately. Nobody can sell a place in a queue on municipal property. First come and first served. Some corrupt official is making money at the traffic department. Security must remove those people to outside the premises. It was done at Uitenhage. They are a bunch of rude and greedy criminals in my eyes and have nothing to do with the traffic department. Why are the doors anyway locked, to keep the people outside and since when? It was never like that before. Why let them in one at a time? No wonder hundreds of people drive around without driver’s licences. The traffic department has lost the plot.

METRO SHOULD PREFER ONLINE PURCHASE

WHY should you pay R4.50 to purchase electricity online? Surely electricity vendors are paid a commission by NMBM, so then the municipality should prefer online purchases and not penalise these customers.

COURT WILL ESTABLISH THE TRUTH

THE Oscar Pistorius Twitter, HardTruth, says “many untruths, half-truths have been spread”. That may or may not be true! But sadly Reeva is stone dead, she has been silenced and we will never hear her hard truth! But we trust that the court will establish the whole truth and nothing but the truth on her behalf.
