'Reforms' unsuccessful

AS predicted, the "agrarian land reform" process gets its shining accreditation from agrarian reform MEC Zoleka Capa ("Back to roots to fight poverty", February 19).

One needs to look no further than Walmer township where the tunnel garden project lies in tatters, millions of rands wasted and equipment lying idle, and hundreds of unemployed are lining the streets hoping for a job.

We have tried to form a rural gardening project in the Sundays River valley on a very small scale. A beautiful garden emerged.

When the owner left for a few days his garden was stripped of its produce by thieves, too lazy to work for themselves.

Until people want to work very hard and own their own destiny, all such "reforms" are a waste of time and money.
