Can't see pine forest for trees

THE readers' letters, "No accountability for slaughter" (February 13) from Louise Williamson and "Pine forest had to go" by Mervyn Brouard (February 17) refer.

After reading these two letters I am confused as to what actually took place as each reader gave conflicting explanations, especially about what role the ward councillor Gustav Rautenbach played in this matter.

Would it not be appropriate for Rautenbach, by way of a letter to the Herald, to clarify the situation about the pine trees and forest as well as what part he played in all this.

It is also a pity that the parks department and councillors don't give more attention to other areas of Lorraine and elsewhere in the city where invasive plants are also growing.

Is it not their duty in terms of the Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act and other legislation to have these removed without having to be requested by anybody to do it?
