Proteas failed to bloom

THE Proteas wear the crown of the No 1 test side.

In the build-up to the test series just begun in South Africa, and following on a home series against the Indians, there were many thoughts put forward as to who was going to replace Jacques Kallis.

Ryan McLaren and Faf du Plessis were the favourites. And even Du Plessis wrote how he felt confident after the Proteas' training camp.

Well come match day and after Graeme Smith won the toss and the Aussies were two wickets down, that was the last time the South African side were in the game.

None of the batsmen applied themselves to the five-day game, and looked lethargic to say the least.

This was in direct contrast to the newcomers in the Aussie side who were playing for their places in the side!
