Pine forest had to go

I WOULD like to correct and edit Louise Williamson's letter in The Herald of February 13 ("No accountability for slaughter").

There used to be an environmentally damaging pine forest area off Verdun Road in Lorraine.

Many people used to walk in this invasive forest noting the damage being caused by this species, with fewer varieties of birds and animals than would be found in a natural indigenous forest.

After raising concerns about this unnatural forest of pine, councillor Gustav Rautenbach ensured that proper procedure was being followed to remove invasive plants as required by the "Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act" and being implemented by the parks department.
