TOW TRUCKS IGNORE LAW
“TOW trucks dodge law” (February 11) clearly shows how the rate of lawlessness has increased on our roads. One can see why there are so many speed humps and other relevant traffic calming measures throughout the metro. It is also sad that motorists can be so selfish and clock 168km/hr on a 60km/hr and still escape the law.
CONCERNED TAX PAYER
THE time to monitor pickup truck cowboys in Cape Road between William Moffett and Westering iseveryday between 4.45pm and 5.45pm.
TOW trucks are a pet hate topic of mine. It is an excuse to drive at breakneck speeds. The drivers couldn’t administer a plaster! In the same box have to be the ambulance operators. It’s a race for profits. I refuse to move out of either’s way.
RESPONSE TO HERALD COLUMNISTS
KAZEKA Mashologu Kuse, Nelson Mandela had more sense than most people and it was his money so he could do what he pleased to do with it.
TO KAZEKA Mashologu Kuse, your feminist approach clouds your judgment and your objectivity. Winnie Madikizela-Mandela should not be compensated for being unfaithful to an elderly and frail former president.
KAZEKA Kuse, didn’t Winnie Madikizela-Mandela get a huge divorce settlement?
KAZEKA, my sister, you can huff and puff about Madiba’s will. Winnie cared less about inclusion. They were legally divorced and both moved on with their lives. Stop it!
I DON’T agree with Kazeka Kuse. We can’t change the fact that Winnie was the ex-wife. We are not taking everything she went through for granted, but I still maintain: she was not his (current) wife, therefore Madiba was right in not including her in his will.
GREAT and inspiring article by Prof Piet Naude on Tuesday.
THANKS to Cricket SA for bringing the “confuser” into the mix. Gelvandale Cricket Club must be smiling from ear to ear because he is their member. I hope this AGM will bring stability and a clear vision to this province.
EP SUPPORTER, you clearly don’t know what you are talking about. The illegally “elected board” of which you were clearly in favour of, wasted R1-million. Threats of fighting back will not help EP cricket! Let cricket people run cricket! Judge Kroon made his decision – accept it.
THE GOOD GUYS
I SUPPORT what EP Supporter says. EP Cricket is divided between black and white through the doings of a past president. It will take someone special to restore the dignity EP once had.
PRISONERS’ RIGHT TO VOTE
WHY should murderers be allowed to vote? The person they killed had his rights taken away.
THREATS AGAINST POLICE
THE threat to attack police living in the community is disgusting. It’s anarchy. Call in the army. The government is too weak.
LAW AND ORDER
COUNCILLORS CASH IN
RE: AMAHLATHI councillors’ salaries increases (February 10). This is madness. They need to go back to school and learn about economics.
POSSIBLE NAME CHANGE
SEEING that the ANC government likes to waste taxpayers’ money when it comes to changing names of streets, cities and provinces, why then don’t they change the name of South Africa to Zimbabwe Extension?
HELPFUL POST OFFICE
A THOUSAND thanks to Newton Park postmaster, Andries Gouws, for taking the time and trouble to assist an 84-year-old lady with a transfer of ownership problem, which had caused her a lot of stress and sleepless nights. You have given her peace of mind after months of worry! May God bless you for your care and concern.
RESPONSE TO READERS’ COMMENTS
SINCE when did Lawrence Troon appoint himself DA leader selector? He is obviously happy with the ANC, which shows his poor judgment.
LAWRENCE Troon, Leon de Villiers served us well with all his heart and soul. Pity you have to slur his good name. Shame on you!
LAWRENCE Troon’s comments are racist. The DA appoints competent qualified leaders and is the most diverse party in SA. The ANC appoints corrupt cronies, cadres and cousins.
HAS Lawrence Troon now become a political analyst? Wonder if he will ever become chief whip of the ANC?
STATE OF THE NATION SPEECH
WHAT part of poverty, starvation or “austerity measures” does the ANC government not understand? A R6-million budget for President Jacob Zuma’s state of the nation address! Baby Tyawa says that the bulk of the budget has been spent on the banquet dinner for 2000 guests at the Cape Town International Convention Centre! Cry our beloved country.
RE: PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma’s son’s car smash. The police did not take a blood test as he did not LOOK drunk. Guess what all future drunk drivers are going to claim?
HORRIBLE STATE OF HOSPITAL
PROVINCIAL Hospital is in a disgusting state. There is long grass, scattered litter, overflowing bins, weeds growing through the pavement, toilets that are unfit for human use. How can we even have our doctors and nursing staff work in this environment, let alone the patients and visitors?
