Beating of child reported to police

I SPENT part of Sunday morning on Hobie Beach. At approximately 10.30, while walking on the walkway, at the beach boat access point I witnessed a man beating one of the two young children in his company, severely about the head. Of course the youngster was screaming hysterically, the second child looked on in fear.

After my wife gave him a piece of her mind, he stopped beating and sauntered off with the two children to collect his vehicle in Second Avenue, a white hatchback. What kind of "man" beats a defenceless and hysterical child, severely about the head (the child looked about four years old), while screaming at the children to shut up.

The incident has been reported to the police and Childline can expect a call.
