EFF a facade orchestrated by ANC

THIS is just a hypothesis, but it attempts to explain the phenomenon that is the EFF. It is strange indeed how Julius Malema, who was once prepared to kill for President Jacob Zuma, has mysteriously turned against his erstwhile hero and now, having been expelled from the ANC Youth League, has formed his own party and denigrates Zuma at every turn. The explanation: the ANC has seen the writing on the wall, and senses itself in a downward spiral. What do the crewmen of a doomed ship do when they realise they are about to sink ? Launch a lifeboat, of course. The ANC knows that its crew will soon be jumping ship, COPE- style, and rather than risk the said crewmen grasping at any random lifeline such as the DA, it would rather have a lifeboat from the same stable (to mix a metaphor) as itself. The new government will be nothing more than the ANC with a new face and a new name. The new face will represent the country's youth, who are destined to take over the reigns anyway while the old faces can effect for themselves a soft landing, retire behind the scenes and control the new party unobserved. Having previously established themselves in financial comfort, they can afford to take a back seat and share the spoils with the new rulers. Far-fetched? Perhaps, but seasoned watchers of the political scene will know the depths to which politicians can descend. JJ Ossher, Uitenhage
