WITH reference to The Herald article, “50 years of special education” (June 17), these types of schools are desperately needed throughout South Africa, and not only for children with learning disabilities. There are hundreds of thousands of children in SA who would benefit from an education that is more practically based.
We are desperately short of practical skills. The subjects that Westview School offers would go a long way to assist young people finding jobs, or becoming entrepreneurial.
There seems to be no lateral thinking or understanding when rolling out our school curriculum. Only three to 4% of the population is intellectually suited for university.
Quite frankly we don’t need an overabundance of university graduates, we need practical and entrepreneurial skills to build our country.
