NOTHING to do in Port Elizabeth now that the dolphins and Apple Express train have gone? Why not go to Samrec, the organisation that cares for and rehabilitates penguins?
There is a museum of various marine artifacts, and a guided tour and talk. At the moment there are more than 30 penguin chicks that are being fed and cared for after being brought in starving from Bird Island.
They are doing well and starting to swim in the lovely rock pool, and can be watched while you have coffee in the Flying Penguin cafe. It’s well worth a visit for the whole family.
Your support will help save the endangered African penguin whose colonies live on the islands in our Bay. Samrec is open daily 9am to 4.30pm. Phone 041-5831830. Turn off at Pine Lodge.
It’s a great tourist attraction for PE.
