How to watch Trump's inauguration in South Africa

Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States on Friday. Here’s everything you need to know on how you can catch all the pomp — and the protests — right here in South Africa.

Thousands of anti-Trump protesters were expected among an inauguration crowd that organisers estimated will be upwards of 900 000. Protests are also planned in cities abroad‚ including South Africa.

The inaugural swearing-in ceremony will take place at 6.30pm (SA time) when Trump and his vice president‚ Mike Pence‚ will take their oath of office outside the domed US Capitol‚ with Chief Justice John Roberts presiding.

Trump will then launch his presidency with an inaugural address that he has reportedly been writing himself with the help of top aides.

After the ceremony — and lunch — Trump will review the American armed forces and will lead the parade down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Later that night‚ there will be two official inaugural balls as well as the Armed Services Ball. Trump is expected to make remarks at all three.

Most of the major American news networks will have special all-day inauguration coverage‚ while many international networks will live-stream the event. Don’t worry‚ if you don’t have access to a TV you can still follow all the proceedings online.

You can watch the livestream of the inauguration .
