Seeking peace

A devotee prays in front of a Buddhist monk statue at Wat Hua Lamphong temple in Bangkok, Thailand, yesterday.

Built during the Rattanakosin period (1782 to 1932), Wat Hua Lamphong is a Royal Buddhist temple popular with Thais and known for its Chinese cremation ceremonies as well as for earning merits for worshippers through providing a variety of donations.

These include feeding the temple cows for about R8, buying rice for the monks, donating towards rebuilding the temple, or sponsoring a coffin for about R220 for those without families or unable to afford one.
