Dark comedy “Birdman” won the best picture Oscar on Sunday, soaring to Academy glory with four awards on Hollywood’s biggest night.

The film bested seven other contenders: “American Sniper,” “Boyhood,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “The Imitation Game,” “Selma,” “The Theory of Everything” and “Whiplash.”

The film from Fox Searchlight Pictures portrays a washed-up former superhero actor, played by Michael Keaton, and his struggle to make a comeback in a Broadway play. It stood out among the eight nominees for appearing to be filmed in one long continuous shot.
