Britain’s oldest person turns 112

Britain's oldest person, who celebrated her 112th birthday yesterday, said she felt as though she was 70.
Gladys Hermiston-Hooper, who was born on January 18 1903, has lived through two world wars, the sinking of the Titanic and the reigns of five British monarchs.
She said: “It is amazing I have lived for so long. There is no secret and, hopefully, I can keep going for a few more years. I feel as though I am 70.”
Hermiston-Hooper was born in the same year the Wright brothers invented the world’s first aeroplane.
The former concert pianist inherited the title of Britain’s oldest person following the death of Ethel Lang, 114, on Thursday last week.
