A Turkish-born law student has been found guilty in Britain of a terrorism-related offense after a rare semi-secret trial.
The decision was reached by a jury last week but only made public Monday (17/11/2014) when the judge lifted reporting restrictions.
Erol Incedal was found guilty by a jury at a London courthouse of possessing a bomb-making document likely to be useful to a terrorist. The jury failed to reach a verdict on a related charge and he is scheduled to face retrial early next year.
Prosecutors had sought to have the trial held in secret on national security grounds. After a challenge from media organizations, a judge ruled that some sections should be held in public. But a large part of the evidence was heard behind closed doors. – Sapa-AP
