Shooting reported at Florida, US, university

A shooting was reported early Thursday at a university in Florida, but no details were immediately available on casualties, according to US media.

The latest shooting in the country broke out in the library of Florida State University in the state capital Tallahassee, CNN, CBS and other media reported.

Contacted by AFP, campus police and hospital officials could not provide any details.

Students at the huge university with a student body of more than 40,000 said as many as four shots were fired in the lobby of the library.

One of the students who was at the library, Blair Stokes, said police had announced a suspect was in custody.

Describing the early moments of the drama, Stokes said she was on the first floor of the library and "this guy comes up and says someone has a gun," she told CNN.

Stokes said police quickly swarmed the building after the shots were fired. The university had quickly put out an alert warning of a "dangerous situation" on campus.

Another student, Matthew Peskert who was outside the library at the time of the shooting, told CNN that students were being told two people had been injured and four shots were fired. - AFP
