Alleged PE drug lord arrested

Police have arrested an alleged drug lord in Port Elizabeth and detained him on a charge of dealing in drugs.

Members of the intervention team performing duties under “Operation Lockdown” executed a search warrant at a well-known drug post in Schauderville on Tuesday afternoon.

Police arrested a 31-year-old man.

Quantities of tik‚ a licensed 9mm firearm‚ ammunition and a substantial amount of cash were seized by the police team.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

The distribution and sale of drugs were major contributory factors to gang violence‚ which compromised the security and safety of innocent community members‚ police said in a statement.

“The SAPS is committed to closing all avenues for drug dealers and syndicates.”

The police called on communities to continue providing tip offs in order to make their neighbourhoods safer.

"The SAPS continues on our mission to rid the Northern Areas of PE of gang-related violence and criminal activities.

Our message is clear and unambiguous -  we will deal decisively with those breaking the law, and we will be intensifying our resolve in dealing with the scourge of drugs, illegal firearms and violence.

We call on communities to continue providing tip offs to the police in order to make their neighbourhoods  safer," said the Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie
