Oscar reports for community service duties

Paralympian Oscar Pistorius on Saturday reported to Garsfontein police station, east of Pretoria, where he was to conduct community service.

The recently paroled track athlete walked into the police station shortly before 08:00 after being dropped off by his sister, Aimee.

Wearing a white t-shirt, khaki pants, shades and a black cap, Pistorius avoided any contact with a small group of media who were camped outside the station.

One of the reporters greeted Pistorius but he walked straight ahead without giving a response.
He was accompanied by a police officer.

This was the first time Pistorius had been seen in public since his release from prison almost a month ago.

He had spent a year behind bars for shooting dead his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. He alleged to have mistaken her for an intruder.

On October 21 last year, Pistorius was sentenced to five years for shooting Steenkamp dead. He was granted parole after serving a sixth of his sentence.

The double-amputee track star was sentenced to a further three years, suspended for five years, for firing a shot at Tasha’s restaurant in Johannesburg, in January 2013.
