Proposed PE fish farm suffers blow

The development of a proposed fish farm off Port Elizabeth's coast has suffered a blow after Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa has decided to revert the decision to grant environmental authority back to the department's Directorate of Integrated Environmental Authorisation.

Yesterday she released a document wherein she points out various concerns and aspects that needed reviewing before a final decision on the proposed fish farm can be made.

Some of the points she raised included a review of the projected revenue of the fish farm compared to the potential loss that could be suffered, and the possibility of site Algoa 5, within the Addo Marine Protected Area, serving as viable alternative to Algoa 1, off the coast of Hobie Beach.
