CONFIDENTIAL documents that the provincial government hoped would never see the light of day have revealed the shocking fact that fewer than half of Nelson Mandela Bay’s 2014 matrics received 40% or more for maths and science.
This is despite the national and provincial education departments and teachers supposedly doing all in their power to ensure pupils were adequately equipped for the two “critical” subjects.
Pupils must obtain 40% and above for maths and science to obtain university entrance.
The documents listing every school in the Bay and their matric results for maths and science were leaked to The Herald, which had tried for months to obtain them from the provincial department.
