A HOST of big film production companies, celebrities and tourists are expected to flock to Nelson Mandela Bay in December for a 10-day inaugural Mandela International Film Festival.
The municipality has set aside R12-million towards the R40-million festival to ensure it is a worldclass event. The budget still has to be approved by the full council.
The festival stemmed from the idea of celebrating the life of former president Nelson Mandela.
At an economic development, tourism and agriculture portfolio committee meeting yesterday, Forge Marketing and Management managing director Pat Dambe said the approach to the event had to be as aggressive as it was with the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
She was intimately involved with the organisation of that event.
Her company had developed and commercialised the concept of the festival, which she said was generating interest around the world.
