Sacked from mayoral committee over China trip, ANC also wants him out of council
COUNCILLOR Thembinkosi Mafana could soon be joining the ranks of the unemployed.
First he was fired as a member of Nelson Mandela Bay’s mayoral committee on Monday, but told he could continue to serve on the council. Then, barely a day later, the ANC demanded he resign from the council completely.
The ANC regional task team, led by Charles Nqakula, met Mafana yesterday morning and told him he could no longer represent the party in council and must resign.
The meeting at the ANC regional office, Florence Matomela House, is believed to have been over in five minutes.
Insiders said Mafana came in and was advised to hand in his resignation, then asked if he had any questions. He said he did not. He then picked up his documents and left.
