Child porn suspect released

Neighbours angry after bail granted to G’town man

SHOCKED neighbours of a Grahamstown businessman alleged to be the kingpin in an international online child porn syndicate expressed anger yesterday after he was granted bail.

They said the quiet guesthouse owner spent most of his time indoors, glued to his computer, and that they would never have imagined he could allegedly be involved in something so evil.

The man, 53, who is married and the father of two daughters and a son, is allegedly linked to the abuse of hundreds of young girls – mostly in the US – and extradition proceedings have been initiated.

Looking dishevelled, he appeared briefly in the Grahamstown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with possession, creation, procurement and distribution of child pornography, before being released on R40 000 bail.
