TWO men arrested in connection with last week’s armed robbery at Greenacres shopping centre have been released as they could not be linked to the crime.

This, even though the men were arrested after returning to the shopping centre a few hours after the jewellery shop robbery in one of the suspected getaway vehicles.

Provincial police spokeswoman Brigadier Marinda Mills said yesterday the investigation had been taken over by the organised crime unit of the Hawks.

The unit investigates priority crimes such as cash-in-transit and shopping centre robberies.

“The two suspects arrested later [in the Volkswagen Polo] have been released because they could not be linked to the crime,” Mills said.

Two people – a police officer and a suspect – were wounded during the mid-morning robbery at Fischer’s Jewellers on Thursday.
