Beneficiaries out of pocket after mystery deductions

PENSIONERS and social grant recipients in Nelson Mandela Bay have found themselves mysteriously out of pocket and the victims in a multibillion-rand tender fight involving the Department of Social Development and its service provider, Cash Payment Services (CPS).

Community development workers and specialists have slated the way in which beneficiaries have been treated.

When New Brighton grandmother Julia Mthimkhulu, 60, tried to pay for groceries with her South African Security Agency (Sassa) card at a food store, she was confused when she was turned away by the cashier because there were no funds available.

At least 100 other beneficiaries in the Bay suffered the same embarrassment.

Is there no end to the devious ways of these scammers who prey on the old and needy? this new development is a blight on the integrity of the Department concerned and heads should roll as this is so common in this sad fraud ridden South Africa!
