Rainbow Warrior skipper tells of miracle discovery

WHEN Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior docked in the Port Elizabeth harbour on Friday, the visit was an especially moving one for skipper Michael Fincken.

He yesterday met up with his aunt – a woman he did not know existed until two years ago when she was reunited with the brother she had not seen for 75 years.

It was part miracle, part impeccable timing that saw 84-year-old Port Elizabeth resident Anne Hoffman and Fincken’s father Ian, 81, reunited in 2013.

And yesterday, while queues of people lined up to step on board the Rainbow Warrior, Hoffman and Fincken jnr sat on the deck reminiscing about the movie-style sequence of events that saw a family brought together after a lifetime apart.
